Membership Information
Benefits of Membership

The PMCG is being designed, and will continuously evolve, to improve the flow of information while specifically minimizing the cost of gaining benefit from involvement. Active membership in this group depends on the level of participation and can provide the benefits defined below.

  • A more effective asset management strategy specifically linking needs of the asset owner with the preventive maintenance program can be developed and implemented. The right strategy for preventive maintenance improvement can be defined.
  • Improvement in asset reliability and performance can be realized through application of more effective preventive maintenance activities.
  • The risks associated with an aggressive preventive maintenance program can be better understood and managed because more than one organization has developed it.
  • The current trend in the nuclear industry toward a loss of experts that truly understand the operation and maintenance of components can be mitigated in part through standardization of preventive maintenance. This standardization can also help organizations to better deal with the day to day activities related to preventive maintenance and unplanned upset conditions that may occur.
  • A reduction in the cost of operating and maintaining assets through implementation of the least cost maintenance strategy necessary to maintain the required level of performance can be realized.
  • The cost of conducting preventive maintenance optimization projects and developing a basis for preventive maintenance can be reduced through sharing of information. This benefit is realized in part by not duplicating work across different organizations.
  • All organizations can be exposed to new and innovative ideas from other members, including those outside of the nuclear industry.
  • All organizations can be exposed to new and innovative ideas related not only to the most successful preventive maintenance strategies but also new and innovative ideas in the administration of preventive maintenance programs.
  • Testing of new preventive maintenance strategies is improved by significantly increasing the population of components (across several organizations) that have the same or similar preventive maintenance programs.
  • Members will have the ability to work with other organizations on the main focus areas of the group or other areas that are not a main focus area of the group.
  • Members will be able to participate at the level set by the rules of their organizations for sharing information that might be used by their competition.

Membership

Membership in this group is voluntary but requires organizations to self-assess to ensure they meet the criteria defined below.

  • The organization is aggressively pursuing improvements in the reliability of their assets through more effective preventive maintenance programs. "Aggressive" in this criterion means that the preventive maintenance program in your organization is not "business as usual". Resources are being applied to improve the effectiveness, cost and/or basis of the program.
  • The organization agrees to open and honest exchange of information related to their preventive maintenance program.
  • The organization agrees to share information equally with information (benefits) they receive.

Application of these criteria will ensure all members are equally engaged and benefiting from this group.

Consultants are welcome within this group only if they are representing a participating organization.

An organization can be added to this group by contacting any one of the core organization members listed below and forwarding the information contained in Attachment 2 to that member. Jon Anderson and Tammy Chavet for Ken Hart will maintain PMCG documents up to date and distribute this information based on input from members. Core team members will coordinate prioritization of focus areas and events such as agreed workshops. The structure of this organization (including leadership through a core group) will be reevaluated as the group is established. The MANTG Charter will be used as one source of information in revising this structure.
